October 5th, 2009 | 3 Comments | Posted in News

On November 11th, fans will be queuing outside stores around the country waiting for the doors to open so they can get their hands on the latest installment in the Call of Duty series. Having grown in popularity progressively over the years, with each release outselling the last, the Call of Duty series has become one of the most popular video games in the world. The latest offering, Modern Warfare 2, sets the bar even higher as far as graphics go; we’ve been told that the game utilizes the Infinity Ward graphics engine, but is whole generation ahead of the previous game’s graphics. With such a huge amount of hype, this game better deliver on many levels. It must have plenty of exciting gameplay combined with the fantastic Call of Duty multiplayer mode, which has been the prime reason for its popularity over the years.

Looking away from the details of the actual game for a second, Activision’s marketing strategy seems to be notably different to that used with previous games. Having seen huge success in the form of Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and other games that come in big packages, they look to be trying to bring this style to the world of the first person shooter. It’s a surprising move, and one that won’t be popular with all of the diehard fans. However, the regular edition of the game will still undoubtedly remain the bestseller, while new and exciting options will also be available to those who want them. The Hardened Edition of the game comes with a metal casing, concept art from the production of the game, and other “behind-the-scenes” extras. This edition of the game will reportedly cost $80, but it is the Prestige Edition of the game that is really making waves. The Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition is essentially the same as the Hardened Edition, except for one major addition, night vision goggles. That’s right, this edition comes packaged with a set of fully functioning night vision goggles, something which is sure to get more than just a few people excited.

Modern Warfare 2 Night Vision Goggles

Although the Call of Duty series has generally been known as hard hitting and gritty, Activision (the games’ publishers) have decided to surprise us all by offering various different bundles for the release of their latest game Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2. In the most expensive and most expansive bundle, Activision offer us fully functioning night vision goggles, every boy’s dream!

There are various editions of the game being released, the one which includes the night vision goggles is called the Prestige Edition and looks to be trying to catch on to the success of other bundled games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Activision will be hoping as many people as possible avoid the “regular” edition of the game (the ability to play the game isn’t enough for some people apparently). The Hardened Edition tries to put the emphasis back onto the gritty nature of previous games, coming in a metallic case and filled with sketches and concept art from the production stages of the game. This hardened edition will probably be more popular than the Prestige Edition, primarily because of its price point of $80. As yet, the Prestige Edition has not been given a price, but it looks likely to hit well over $100.

The Prestige Edition is essentially the hardened edition, with the added bonus of the night vision goggles and a headstand to place them on when you aren’t on a mission. It is certainly an exciting prospect and one which we’re sure plenty of people will jump at; after all, it’s not every day you get the chance to own your very own pair of night vision goggles. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 looks to be an absolutely fantastic game, and pushes the graphical element of the series forward yet again. It remains to be seen how popular the more expensive editions will be among gamers, something which could define the success of the game.

Modern Warfare Live Action Movie

modern-warfare-movieModern Warfare 2 shows at E3, and IGN got a stab while trying to bring its ancestor to big screens.

While at E3 Microsoft shows brand new demo on Modern Warfare 2 this week, this left people wondering how Infinity Ward’s revolutionary series might convert into big screens.

The plot of the game was set up around a sequence of fiery and suspense packed missions that leave you hop wildly from one firefight to another. There are soldiers, dogs, armored cars, tanks, helicopters and things you go along with.

Nevertheless, it works with a controller within your hand. Still, could that character-driven weird brilliancy of the Modern Warfare convert into big screens? Well, IGN thinks so!

DIRECTOR

Many people think that people like Oliver Stone, Steven Spielberg or Ridley Scott – would have been perfect choice for the director’s seat. But Paul Greengrass finally turned out to be the most suitable choice after all.

He didn’t have much experience on making pure war movies. His Bourne Ultimatum happened to be a masterclass that propelled an action packed story forwarded breathlessly towards the super exciting conclusion. Overall, he did a great job.

WRITERS

The script had to accomplish 2 things. First of all, it must flawlessly link this game’s overabundance of set-parts into a full zippy narrative. And secondly, screenplay had to also pick the filthy, funny looking soldier banter for alleviating tensions amid the explosions.

We consider Robert M. Kamen fulfilling the first things. But then again, some people thought that Martin McDonagh should have been allowed to pen a few of those dialogues.

THE CAST

Firstly, the heroes or good guys along with the chap played are the greater parts in the story. It was a good idea to hire fresh SAS recruit MacTavish. But many people thought that Jackson seems pretty annoying. A slightly younger yet grizzled actor could do well here. I think Michael Stahl-David could be just right!

E3 2009: Modern Warfare 2 impressions

Modern-Warfare-2-DemoInfinity Ward showed the single-player level while offering insight to an outspoken sequel.

It’s perhaps E3’s most modern game. But sideways from the trailer playing randomly at the gigantic booth of Activision, it’s hard to find all that while the show is on. In its place, you will need to get some insider access for the rather smaller and close demo of the Modern Warfare 2.

Infinity Ward designed the game in single-player level. Like it or not, that demo happens to be the full version of that truncated demo formerly shown in the press conference of Microsoft.

You discover yourself in a snow level. You start climbing a frozen mountain with ice picks. You use your silenced weapons that are outfitted with advanced hearbeat sensors for sneaking into Russian defenses for reaching a broken down satellite. Ultimately, there will be massive firefight. Part of your mission is to make your get away on snowmobiles. All these make up a strong, madcap pursuit.

Infinity Ward is working on to create different levels of the game. So nobody knows how deep the rabbit hole is going to get. The first game’s hero “Soap” or MacTavish has turned out to be one of the captains and takes over the position of Captain Price.

This means that Soap finally attains a face, and a voice, though the one currently in the demo is temporary placeholder. The gamer plays as a part of an international coalition composed of CIA, Interpol, Delta Force, Tough Rangers, and also British SAS.

So let’s get back to the root – demo. It all amounts to an exciting E3 demo. But surely, all E3 demos show off thrill. Infinity Ward is always putting lots of stress on itself for coming up with quality products. And they are aware that anything they say/do will be investigated to death. But it all seems like this game is going to be one of this year’s most expected games.

Modern Warfare 2 Details Surface

modern-warfare-2-helicopterIt comes with a nice co-op mode plus much more. Details regarding Infinity Ward’s much anticipated forthcoming shooter – the Modern Warfare 2 has seen broad daylight in the Game Informer’s last issue.

The campaign mode of this game features Captain ‘Soap’. In real life, Soap is actually MacTavish. This guy returns from the previous version ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’. This is however one of the most outstanding non-playable characters. Ironically, the role in this game is no exception.

Let’s now see what to expect about the staging of the game. The staging would be much more varied. The total duration is 6-10 hours. Game play mechanics would include climbing icy slopes of mountains as you carry ice picks and ride a snowmobile. There can also be a number of ingenious enemy attacks.

And you’ll see seemingly never-ending waves initiate until you have stepped across the invisible line. The game’s settings could range from typical Russian snowy mountains to Rio de Janiero, in Brazil. This is supposed to be much more extensive level compared to any current versions of Modern Warfare.

And this game comes with some entirely new modes. Special Forces is one such mode. This involves a couple of secluded stages that are neither tied, nor narrative. There are hardly any sign regarding exactly how many Special Forces stages there would be.

But some sources confirm that those will be one of the “major parts” of this game. Even more interesting fact is, as the story-based campaign suggests single-player only mode, you’ll be assisted by the maps of the Special Forces and that is how 2 players are allowed to run throughout the game co-operatively. Infinity Ward said that it was about to focus on getting players famous depending on their achievements.
